MEMPHIS – National Cotton Council (NCC) Chairman Woody Anderson said today that U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman provided dedicated leadership for U.S. agriculture and served with distinction during her four-year tenure in the Bush Administration.

Secretary Veneman resigned Monday from the Bush Cabinet.

Anderson said Secretary Veneman provided keen insight and timely implementation of the 2002 farm law, including sweeping, new conservation programs.

The Texas cotton producer also noted that Secretary Veneman’s guidance on the agricultural biotechnology regulatory process helped foster the timely introduction of those important tools, and she played a key role in the formation and implementation of the Department of Homeland Security.

“Secretary Veneman’s direction and oversight on homeland security helped combat terrorism through significant improvements in the safety of the U.S. agricultural production and processing infrastructure,” Anderson said.
