USDA’s March Prospective Plantings Report indicates U.S. producers intend to plant 10.7 million cotton acres in 2024, up 4.3% from the previous year. Upland area is projected to be 10.5 million acres, up 3.8% from 2023 while extra-long staple (ELS) area is projected at 203,000 acres, a 38.1% increase.
The NCC’s planting intentions survey, released in early February, indicated U.S. producers intend to plant 9.6 million upland acres and 202,000 ELS acres.
