MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The National Cotton Council commends President Trump for the ongoing efforts to achieve balanced trade with China, including the resumption of U.S. cotton purchases. Initiating a review of the Phase One Agreement with China is an important step in that process.
“Historically, China represented a market of 3 to 5 million bales for U.S. cotton, but currently, sales have fallen by more than 95% from historical levels,” said NCC President/CEO Gary Adams. “We are encouraged by the ongoing dialogue between the two countries and strongly urge a new agreement that results in meaningful purchases of U.S. cotton by China.”
NCC noted that the loss of China’s market is contributing to the increasingly negative financial situation of cotton farmers.
